This book does fulfill a need foreveryday conversations, but… It is very difficult to make heads or tails out of because the punctuation is abysmal and accent marks seem to be placed rather randomly. Many written accent marks were left out when they are necessary. Sí and si seem to be a total craps shoot. This was probably dictated and no one bothered to proofread it before it was sent to the printers. Many run-on sentences. Punctuation really needs to be cleaned up. Also some of the language is rather stilted and does not look like like anything a native speaker would say. Why did they not use real Spanish names for the speakers inthe dialogs? Jennifer, Abigail, Charlotte, etc. are hard to say in Spanish... I have given up using this book for beginner students and I now use it for advanced students to teach them how to proofread and clean it up for themselves based on being confident of what they already know.
